Interview with Kristina ( SteamyInTheCity )

Most of you maybe don't know what is SteamyInTheCity. It is a youtube channel that shows amazing and creative music video on Youtube.

Florence + The Machine - No Light, No Light (Cover By Chanele Mc Guinness)

Me : Can you tell me more about you?
Kristina :
My real name is Kristina and my husband Scott and I were both children of the 80's!! My favorite food is homemade carrot cake with cream cheese frosting, and Scott's is street tacos. Our favorite thing to do in the whole wide world is taking road trips with our cameras.

Me : What program do you usually use to editing video?
Kristina :
We typically use a combination of Adobe Premiere, After Effects, Photoshop, and Illustrator CS5.5.

Me : What/who is your inspiration to making video?
Kristina :
Our biggest music video inspirations are definitely Michel Gondry, Chris Cunningham, Spike Jonze and a bunch of other directors from the 90's which was totally the golden age of music videos. We are also heavily influenced by a lot of movie directors like Steven Spielburg and Wes Anderson. Those two directors in particular are known for creating these magical cinematic worlds and that magical feeling is what we want to create in our videos more than anything, and why not, magic is cool.

Me : Do you have unforgettable moments while making the video?
Kristina :
The moment that stands out most in my mind right now the part in our No Doubt - Settle Down cover where Tommy Miller gets shot by Justine Dorsey for stealing her bag of gold. After a less than enthusiastic first take I told Tommy that when he gets shot he really needs to commit to the fall. Well I didn't fully take into consideration that he was falling on a ground full of sharp small rocks. Tommy definitely went for it on the second take, and then stands up and says "I'm bleeding all over the place, and I'm pretty sure I broke my hand." Luckily Tommy powered through the rest of the day in Calico Ghost Town, in 110 degree heat, in a mad race against the sun. Thus earning Tommy Miller the nickname "Tommy Trooper" which was actually coined by the lovely miss Chanele Mc Guinness who helped out at the shoot.

Me : What's one your favorite video on youtube?
Kristina :
This is a tough question because I love so many YouTube videos, but I guess the one we come back to the most is the OK Go "This Too Shall Pass" music video. Watch it, it's great...

Me : From all video that you've made before, which one is your favorite?
Kristina :
Gosh, all the videos we've filmed have these special memories attached to them. In a way they are all my favorite for different reasons, but if I had to choose I think the No Doubt - Settle Down shoot is #1. There was some serious bonding moments for everyone involved, I feel like we are all BFF's now, and those types of experiences are rare and awesome. So yeah, Settle Down... for now.

Me : How does it feel to working with awesome people to make video then see people love your video on youtube?
Kristina :
We absolutely love working with the artists on our channel they are truly great musicians and great friends. The support we have gotten so far in such a short time has been incredible. Thank you, Thank you, to the people who watch, subscribe, comment, and like our videos you have no idea how much of a positive impact you guys have had on the careers of our musicians.

Me : The last one is... Do you have some words for everyone who wants to be a video maker like you?
Kristina :
I think the main bit of advice I can give aspiring YouTube film makers, is to never let perfection get in the way of uploading your videos. Let your audience watch you rise up from humble beginnings. Oh and don't be afraid to delete negative comments that really bum you out. Down with the Trolls!
